What is your gender (today) and your pronouns?
Troupe affiliation? Solo Performer?
Are you a producer? What do you produce?
Yes! Golden Lady Burlesque on third Tuesdays monthly at Sid Gold's Request Room & Bubbling Brown Sugar Burlesque which is on its way to Boston.
What led you to become a burlesque performer?
I'm an actor by training. I'd been a club dancer for about a decade. I have a solo show that's a lecture demonstration about Paul Robeson by Paul Robeson. I play Paul Robeson. My director, Mimi McGurl suggested WOW Cafe Theater to workshop it. WOW works on sweat equity. You work on my show, I work on your show. The first thing I did was House Manage for HyperGender Burlesque. HyperGender has some pretty edgy performers sometimes. Rose Wood was in the first burlesque show I ever saw. BAM, this is neo burlesque! I had never seen this. I didn't know it existed. It was a perfect blend of stripping and theater. That warmed my little actor stripper heart. I was hooked.
What do you love about burlesque/performing?
I LOVE the freedom to create art from start to finish and have complete creative control. I love the costumes & props people create!!! By day, I dress pretty much college student casual. I love the way they surprisingly come apart. I need a costume fairy cuz what's in my mind and what's in my budget are not congruent :-). I love the audiences most of all. It's like getting on stage and playing with a room full of friends. The energy that burlesque fans give is insanely delicious.
Why do you think Burlesque Boston is important? Tell us about the community!
I grew up in Dorchester during the 80's. I left Boston AS SOON AS I COULD. I was exhausted from dealing with racism and I was only 18. When I come to Boston for burlesque however, I am surrounded by some of the most aware, supportive and creative group of humans ever. Boston Burlesque is important to me because it makes me excited to visit home. I feel more at home in the Boston burlesque community than I do in NY where I live.
What's a fun fact about you that people might not know?
I newly discovered that I love making wigs! It's quite meditative to me.
What is your personal favorite performance?
ONE? I love Peekaboo Pointe's Lazy Stripper act cuz if you ever worked in clubs you know and/or have been this dancer. The Maine Attraction's Give it To Me Baby act is a sexy, funny, feel good, good time. Little Brooklyn's iPad act where the iPad does the stripping. Everything at Alternatease lol... So many good acts. It's really hard to pick one.
What festivals have you attended or performed in?
I'm not really a festival person. I've done very few over my 7 years of burlesque. I don't understand this burlesque festival model at all. Not my jam but I love seeing the joy it gives the folks who are into them! I love to travel though, so my first festival, I think, was The Milan Burlesque Awards. I've done the Minneapolis Burlesque Festival (Good Gosh they treat you well!). I've also done Amsterdam Burlesque Festival, New York Burlesque Festival, Alternatease (<3 <3 <3) and Jeezy's Juke Joint (always an AMAZING set of shows). I am currently the Queen of Classic Burlesque Milan Extraordinaire.
Are you working on anything exciting you'd like to share with our readers?
Yes. I've been writing. I'm excited about launching something new in the next coming months.
Who are your idols?
Perle Noire is forever my queen of burlesque. The Maine Attraction works a crowd like a dream. The minds of Little Brooklyn & Julie Atlas Muz must be fun places to be inside! Jeez Loueez. That's a full sentence.
What's your favorite movie?
The Color Purple. There's a quote from that movie for every part of life.
What song can you not help dancing to?
Any soca or old school rockers reggae. Especially Bajan calypso cuz I'm biased.
Whats your website, Instagram, twitter, etc?
@essencerevealed on IG, FB, Tumblr, Twitter
Do you have any pets? Can we see a picture? Can we follow them on Instagram?
Nope. The way I travel an animal would be so furious with me all the time.

This month we are starting something new: highlighting some of our favorite performers from our diverse community! This month we'd like to highlight that marvelous maven, the wicked and wickedly talented, Jane Doe!
Lucifer Christmas is a gender and genre bending queerdo. They've been hanging around the Boston burlesque and drag scenes for more than half a decade, lurking in shadows, touring, teaching, producing shows, and birthing drag children a plenty. They used to be called something else, but let's not talk about it. They are the producer of WTF Queerlesque, The Dumpster Divas Pageant, and Royally Talented. They've been the Boston ambassador to the International Drag Festival as well as an instructor with Theater Offensive.
